Harrow Council and its partner EnterpriseMouchel have now begun major highway works on the Ealing side of the new Petts Hill Bridge site, improving pedestrian crossing facilities, cycle tracks and footpaths.

The works followed on from the Christmas installation of the new 270-tonne railway bridge, which was officially opened by HRH The Duke of Gloucester on 21 April.

Harrow Council is working together with Ealing Council, Network Rail and Transport for London to deliver improvements to Petts Hill bridge and highway. These works will involve replacing the old railway bridge and creating a wider road, which will help to reduce congestion and improve the public transport network.

The new Petts Hill railway bridge received a royal boost recently, as HRH The Duke of Gloucester officially opened the new structure. During Christmas 2008, Birse Rail removed the railway bridge’s 100-year-old predecessor and constructed a larger version in its place.

With more than 70 residents looking on, The Duke unveiled a plaque at the site, on the border between Harrow and Ealing. Harrow Council and its partner EnterpriseMouchel have now commenced highway improvement works, which will include creating a short section of bus lane; widening the carriageway to two lanes in each direction; improving pedestrian crossing facilities and cycle tracks; and enhancing links to Northolt Park Station.
